Sharjah Airport Authority Motivates Staff Creativity and Innovation Through “My Innovation” Programme

Sharjah International Airport (SIA) is re-launching “My Innovation” programme in keeping with the UAE’s “Innovation Month” My Innovation programme encourages employees to contribute to the improvement and development of work procedures. The launching of  the programme was attended by HE Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority, and a number of senior officials.

Several years ago, Sharjah Airport Authority launched this programme as a mechanism to encourage creativity and attract staff suggestions, which will continuously improve the development of operations and systems at SIA. The employees participating in the system are recognised and rewarded in order to achieve SIA’s mission to reach the highest levels of quality and excellence.

The authority received more than 40 suggestions, which all contributed to successfully achieving the program’s criteria, by improving performance, increasing productivity, boosting services, streamlining processes, increasing revenues and cutting costs.

HE Ali Salim Al Midfa Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority  said, “The launch of “My Innovation” program is in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to empower employees to contribute to their organizations and harness creative in-put. Through this program, SIA seeks to build a highly skilled workforce that contributes positively to the success of the airport, motivate employees to strive for excellence, and to utilize creative contributions, which will reflect on our competitiveness at regional and global levels.”

HE Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi Director of   Sharjah Airport Authority said, “Sharjah Airport Authority continuously encourages a spirit of creativity in order to bring out the full potential of its employees. Therefore, we ask them to put forward suggestions that contribute to the development of work procedures. In addition, this provides a competitive environment that contributes to raising the level of job satisfaction by creating a motivational system for employee suggestions and rewarding them for that.”

He pointed out that the programme also fosters a culture of creativity and loyalty by developing outstanding practices. This creates successful functional models that enrich the experience of and status of Sharjah Airport Authority.”

Suggestion systems are among the most important systems adopted in administrative development. They provide different departments with a better view of the changes that are required to improve performance. With the aim of achieving the best possible results, suggestion systems guide development by optimally leveraging the experience of employees and customers as they are the most capable of identifying emerging needs.
