Sharjah International Airport Facilitates UPS Humanitarian Aid Flight to Nepal

Sharjah International Airport has given necessary facilities and support to UPS Company to aid the victims of the powerful earthquake that hit Nepal this week, claiming more than 7,600 lives and displacing thousands of peopleThe first chartered aircraft took off yesterday afternoon from Sharjah International Airport to Nepal transporting up to 37 tons of relief aid. The shipment includes shelter supplies and solar lanterns, high energy biscuits, tarps, blankets, jerry cans and toiletries.Officials from Sharjah International Airport along with the representatives from UPS and World Food Programme attended the preparation prior flight take off.HE Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: ” We are honoured to be part of this humanitarian initiative in an effort to reach the affected areas and save more lives in Nepal. As part of our corporate and social responsibility, we continue to lend a hand to people facing crises around the world. The recent earthquake destruction that hit the people of Nepal requires immediate action and we count on the support of all humanitarian agencies, locally and internationally”.He added: “Sharjah International Airport is keen to cooperate with various agencies and international organisations that provide humanitarian aid to the beneficiaries in various countries stricken by natural disasters, and suffering from the lack of basic necessities for survival. The Airport is equipped with the latest logistic and technical facilities enabling a speedier the process. With these facilities, the Airport is able to receive giant aircrafts, and with a good record in the speed of completion of the transactions. “According to latest reports, the Government of Nepal has requested international assistance, including search and rescue capacity, medical teams, supplies and tenting for hospitals, heavy equipment for rubble removal and helicopters for transport of the injured and access to blocked areas.
