Expansion to increase the airport’s capacity to hold passengers up to 20 million by 2027. Sharjah International Airport grants the management of new expansion project to “Parsons Overseas Limited”

Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and in line with instructions to launch the expansion of Sharjah International Airport, the Airport Authority has granted the project management rights to Parsons Overseas Limited after inviting seven experienced and specialised companies to present their proposals in response to the tender.

The Technical team in Sharjah International Airport carried out an analytical study to evaluate the submitted proposals in the presence of representatives from the Directorate of Public Works and Department of Civil Aviation in Sharjah. Before delivering their proposals, interviews were carried out with all participating companies, giving them an overview about the project and examining their expertise by reviewing executed projects in the relevant field.

After studying the offers submitted from both a technical and financial standpoint, it was agreed to select Parsons Overseas Limited as a manager of the new expansion project of Sharjah International Airport. The project includes the phases of preparation before design, as well as the design proper, supervision and the handover of the first phase of the project. Parsons Overseas Limited was selected as a result of its experience and expertise in the field as well as the quality of the offer submitted.

An agreement was signed between Sharjah International Airport and Parsons Overseas Limited in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Khaled Bin Essam AlQasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Sharjah, H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud AlQassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority, H.E. Sheikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Thani, Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, H.E. Waleed Al Saygh, Director General of the Central Department of Finance, Engineer Abdulkhaleq Abdulghafar Abdullah, Director of the Engineering and Development Department in Sharjah Airport Authority,  Greg Wealth, Senior Vice-Chairman Middle East and Nick Hadjosens, Manager of Aviation Sector in the Middle East.

H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa confirmed that the selection of Parsons Overseas Limited was based on a technical evaluation and their ability to manage the functions of the new expansion project of Sharjah International Airport, stating that the company has a great reputation in its field with a lot of specific projects as well as inspired and distinctive thoughts which will be reflected in the work to be submitted by the company during the various phases of work of the project. He added that the project will be one of the most architecturally distinctive landmarks in the Emirate of Sharjah and an outlet for communication worldwide.

H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa explained that the new expansion project is an important addition to Sharjah International Airport stating that it will serve a huge number of increasing passengers every year. Also, it will be an important stop for airlines and shipping due to the importance of Sharjah International Airport and its strategic location as well as special services and facilitates offered to companies and its vital location on the main lines of navigation and air transport which link important locations in a few hours.

The new expansion process of Sharjah International Airport, the cost of which is estimated at approximately one billion and five hundred million Dirhams, includes many facilities such as the expansion of the passengers’ building, which is expected to increase the capacity to hold passengers up to 20 million by 2027. The new expansion will be carried out progressively over a number of phases, the most important one being the expansion of roads to and from the Airport in addition to a host of additional facilities which will increase the abilities of the Airport and develop its services significantly.

Parsons Overseas Limited executes several major projects in the United Arab Emirates and Middle East, where it won a contract to design and supervise the infrastructure development project of the site of Dubai Expo 2020. Furthermore, it played an important role in the development of infrastructure for the Dubai Water Canal and the network of roads linking with Dubai Parks and Resorts. It has been appointed as an advisory manager of the Dubai Trade Centre Development Project in the Jebel Ali Area and it oversees the strategic tunnel project of sanitary drainage in Dubai.
