Sharjah International Airport reported a significant increase in passenger traffic with a 13.15% jump during 2013 in comparison with 2012. It registered 8.5 million passengers compared to 7.5 million passengers in 2012, an increase by one million passengers.The aircraft movements were up half a percentage point in 2013, to reach 66,244 compared to 65,975 movements in 2012. The freight handled for the same period of 2013 recorded nearly 300 thousand tons.This increase comes mainly on the back of new routes and additional frequencies by both and existing carriers at Sharjah International Airport, especially by Air Arabia, the UAE’s national carrier, so popular among travelers, thanks to its excellent packages, attractive prices and distinguished services, and connectivity to 87 destinations in a fleet of modern aircrafts,H.E. Ali Salem Al-Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority said:”As the numbers clearly suggest, robust passenger traffic growth continues. This indicates the growing popularity of the Airport and is also a testament to our efficient and simple procedures, excellent services, as well as the attractiveness of Sharjah as a business and tourist destination”.He added: “We continue to work closely with our airline partners to identify opportunities that would generate more traffic for Sharjah International Airport.”He mentioned that the ongoing projects carried out by the airport, will increase the capacity of the airport and help stimulate this growth further.
