Sharjah International airport received Jet Airways’ inaugural flight. 9W-562 on Tuesday, the 1st of September, from Kochi, in the southern Indian state of Kerala. There were 134 passengers on board. Jet Airways will operate these flights on a daily basis between Kochi & Sharjah, using the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.Senior Airport and airline officials were present at the opening function held in the Airport Departure Lounge.While welcoming the Jet Airways company staff, Dr. Ghanem Al-Hajri, the Director General – Sharjah Airport Authority, said: “We wish Jet Airways all the success. A carrier of such prestige and repute as Jet, provides a new dimension and alternative to the subcontinent bound traveller”.He went on to reassure the airline that Sharjah Airport would continue to provide the best services and facilities to all carriers operating through the airport, ensuring their smooth and efficient operations for the ease and comfort of both airline and passenger. He emphasised the importance of Sharjah as an industrial and tourism destination in the region and maintained that this service would further enhance the strong relation between the two countries.Dr. Ghanem Al-Hajri Director General-Sharjah Airport Authority, Mr. Ali Al Midfa Director-Sharjah Airport Authority and airport officials were also presented to welcome the airline.Mr. Shaker Kantawala, The General Manager of Jet Airways, was extremely pleased with the co-operation he received from Sharjah Airport in the preparation of the launch of these services. “We would like to thank the staff in the Department of Civil Aviation and Sharjah Airport Authority for their support in bringing this flight to fruition. Establishing this line will fulfil the wishes of many residents in Sharjah and Northern Emirates as well as from Kerala, who are familiar with the Jet Airways brand and offering”.He also asserted how pleased he was to note that the services and facilities offered at Sharjah Airport were of the highest standards of quality, which was what an airline such as Jet always sought in its partners, the world over.Mr. Shaker pointed out that as a start up incentive, the company would offer special promotions starting from 1st of September. Jet Airways fly to many destinations in the Gulf i.e. Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Al Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Al Riyadh from various Indian cities.The flight No. 9W562 will depart Kochi at 10:45 and arrive Sharjah at 13:05 LT.While the flight No:9W561 will depart Sharjah at 14:15 and arrive Kochi at 19:45 LT.
