Mumbai, 25 February 2018, Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) has concluded its participation in Air Cargo India 2018, which took place from February 20—22 at Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai, India. Air Cargo India 2018 witnessed the participation of a wide range of major international airports, airlines and air freight companies, in addition to representatives of international institutions specialized in aviation and shipping.
During this participation, SAA’s delegation held specialized meetings with representatives of major airline carriers to learn about the latest developments in the shipping sector, especially with regard to the technologies used and logistic solutions for further development in the shipping services at Sharjah International Airport (SIA).
HE Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority said, “SAA participated in this exhibition to highlight the latest services and facilities provided by SIA. It was also an ideal platform for communicating with air cargo experts, senior airline officials, international airports, freight companies and customers from around the world to discuss ways to develop relations and promote joint work and to introduce strategies and development studies conducted for Sharjah International Airport in the coming years, as well as the services and facilities offered by the Freight Center.”
He added, “The Asian market is an important market for Sharjah International Airport, especially the Indian market. Our participation underscores our interest and commitment to this region. Over the past years, we have forged relationships with many specialized air freight entities, taking into account the importance of our strategic location and the role we play in connecting East and West to reach new, important markets.
Sharjah International Airport is a major hub on the global air cargo map as a result of the continuous infrastructure development strategies, handling equipment, adoption of modern systems and procedures, which have contributed to the qualitative leap of air shipping works at SIA over the last five years, reaching more than 1.11 million tons, while the volume of sea/air freight during the same period reached about 103.63 thousand tons.
The area of cargo buildings at SIA is 32 thousand square meters, including cargo aircraft parking positions, equipment for handling 16 airplanes of various types, as well as five air cargo buildings through which a variety of shipments can be undertaken, which boosts the high level of the Freight Center in carrying out operations quickly and efficiently.
