Sharjah Airport has announced the success of its comprehensive full-scale emergency drill, conducted to assess and enhance the airport’s readiness to handle emergency situations. The drill was attended by His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority; His Excellency Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority, and several officials from the airport’s operational and collaborating entities involved in the exercise.
Implementing the Highest Levels of Safety and Security
The drill, conducted in line with the regulations of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, highlighted the airport’s commitment to implementing the highest levels of safety and security for passengers, employees, and all strategic partners. The exercise simulated a fictitious incident involving a mechanical failure in a fuel storage facility, leading to a fuel spill, vapor release, and the ignition of a virtual fire. This scenario tested the airport’s ability to execute its emergency response plan, maintain operational continuity efficiently, and comply with regulatory standards, involving both internal teams and relevant external entities.
Instilling a Culture of Rapid and Effective Emergency Response to Build Confidence in Operations
His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), emphasized that the drill reflects Sharjah Airport’s vision of fostering a culture of swift and effective emergency response, which enhances confidence in operational processes and contributes to a safer and more sustainable travel experience. He further noted that the success of this exercise showcases the deep coordination and partnership with involved authorities and the airport’s proactive preparedness to tackle future challenges effectively.
The drill was conducted in collaboration with the Sharjah Civil Aviation Department, Sharjah Police General Headquarters, Sharjah Civil Defense Authority, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Sharjah Air Wing Police, Bee’ah Group, National Ambulance, Air Arabia, Sharjah Aviation Services, Alfa Catering, SASCO, the SANED Volunteer Team, along with several strategic partners and various departments and divisions of Sharjah Airport. This collaboration demonstrated Sharjah’s readiness and capability to respond rapidly and effectively to emergencies while minimizing their impact on airport operations and ensuring the safety of all involved.
