Sharjah International Airport inaugurates Pharma & Healthcare handling facility at the Freight Center

Sharjah International Airport has been rendered even more attractive with the commissioning of Sharjah Aviation Services’ new CEIV Pharma and Healthcare certified handling facility as part of its Freight Center.Sharjah Aviation Services is now certified by IATA being the first GDP-compliant airfreight handler in the middle east and africa.The certificate was handed over to H.E. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority by Mr. Ronald Schaefer, Project Lead, Center of Excellence for Pharma Logistics at IATA, during the forum, which was held at the Sharjah International Airport Authority building on Wednesday. The fourm was attended by H.E Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of SharjahAirport Authority and Mr. Gonzalo Jacob, Head of Cargo in SharjahAviation Services along with the leading cargo airlines, freight forwarders and consolidators in the cargo industry besides other official representatives from various government entities.H.E Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said:” Sharjah International Airport is keen to provide the best services to its clients in various fields. The freight sector is one of them; we invest in developing the Cargo Center continuously by providing it with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to keep pace with the increasing demand and growth of this sector at local, regional and global levels. The new Pharma and Healthcare handling facility will serve an important segment of our clients, who are dealing with these kinds of delicate items that need an advance temperature controlled technology of storage, care in handling and shipping, as it affects the human life. At the same time, this emphasizes the ability of Sharjah International Airport to deal with all kind of shipments in accordance with the international standardsand requirements.H.E Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi stated: “The new CEIV Pharma certified facility by IATA with its GDP compliance incorporates all the official recommendations and guidelines concerning the transportation and distribution of pharmaceutical products for human use and represents a real added value for all the stakeholders in the logistics chain and their customers.”He added: “In a progressively more regulated sector, this guarantees the final recipient that integrity of the pharmaceutical products will be maintained during their transportation and handling at Sharjah International Airport”.This new facility will enhance Sharjah International Airport’s service offerings to primary clients, exporters, importers as well as end-users both in the UAE and at the destination countries for transiting shipments.It is worth to mention that the Good Distribution Practice (GDP) deals with the guidelines for the proper distribution of medicinal products for human use. GDP is a quality warranty system, which includes requirements for purchase, receiving, storage and export of drugs intended for human consumption.
